Journey Home Minnesota Announces Plan to Build a Home for Disabled Veteran

Journey Home Minnesota and its veteran housing arm, Veterans Journey Home, announced it will build a home in Shoreview, Minnesota for a disabled veteran.

The home will be a unique example of community engagement, energy resilience and workforce development coming together to house a soldier who was injured while serving our country and his family.

Several local companies are contributing significant in-kind construction services, led by McGough Construction and Bolander & Sons.

The home will be extremely energy efficient, utilizing both geothermal heat pumps and Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF). Less than five percent of homes are built to this level of energy efficiency.

St. Paul College’s carpentry class will be held on site for the entire 2015-16 academic year. The college’s cabinet-making class will make all the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. This work dramatically lowers construction costs, while also providing hands-on job development skills and real-world career experience.
